I’m not sure about you, but sometimes it seems ridiculously difficult for me to tell others what I’m working on. I’m excited. Why can’t I shout it from the rooftops? Perhaps, I’m worried it will be considered self-promotion. And some may see it that way. So, what. That’s on them. And just an excuse. The fact is: the more people who know, the greater the chance the news will reach those who care. I should be diligently spreading the word. And the same goes for you and the business you’re building.
As entrepreneurs, sometimes we’re so focused on building the solution, we forget to raise our heads and tell others what we’re creating and why it matters. We may even be telling our target market/audience, but we’re not telling our friends, neighbors, colleagues, fellow entrepreneurs, etc. Who knows why we do this, but we need to get over it.
Here are three things you can do on Take Action Tuesday to spread the word:
Share your story via social media
Those of you who have participated in Track 1, received a worksheet with more than 30 ways to share your story: your social media outlets are just a handful. Those of you who recently launched, received grants or achieved other major milestones, have you shouted it to the world? You should; your future customers are looking for you.
Put out a press release
Each month, we highlight a Track 2 or 3 CI client through locally- and nationally-distributed press releases. Do you have press-worthy news? Let us know. Recent releases have been picked up by an average of 230 local, regional and national outlets. And a couple generated other stories. Send me a quick email with your news and we’ll get you in the monthly line-up. Don’t forget: this is something you should also be doing on your own.
Tell others at local events
We recommend you attend local and industry events to practice your elevator pitch and get your value proposition straight. One of the best ways to do this is via Eliances, a local entrepreneur community that gives each guest a chance to share who they are, what they’re doing, how they can help, and what they need. Since we’re members, our clients have a chance to attend one session free as a guest. If this is something you’re interested in, shoot me an email and we’ll get you set up.
I look forward to seeing you over here at ASU Chandler Innovation Center soon!
