I love this time of year – class schedules, books, school supplies, the promise of new things to learn and new teachers to learn them from. I realize that I may be an anomaly. When I was a kid, I was an absolute nerd, and let’s be honest, I still am. I love to learn. And that’s a good thing. Especially since, the older I get (and I’ve gotten old), the more I realize how little I know. That’s kind of the case with entrepreneurship, too; there’s a whole lot more we don’t know than we do know.
I was recently asked: “If there was one piece of advice you would give entrepreneurs, what would it be?”
I would tell them to recognize the fact that you don’t, won’t and can’t know it all. It is impossible for you to know the answer to every question that will pop up; to make every right decision that needs to be made; and to foresee every roadblock, hiccup and problem that will inevitably arise. Acceptance of this coupled with a willingness to seek out the support, feedback and insight of others, will increase your chances of success significantly. And there are a lot of people willing to help.
Just as classes are beginning all over the Valley, they’re gearing up again here at CI. Here are just a few ways you can get back to school on Take Action Tuesday, and improve your chances of startup success:
Take Track 1
If you’re a CI client struggling to generate consistent revenue, you may have skipped a few steps on your way to building your business, join us in Track 1, which starts today, 2-4p (another cohort will begin October 2nd, 10a-12p). If you’re interested, send Jody an email here.
Take a Class or Workshop
There are several programs, workshops and classes taking place each month here at ASU Chandler Innovation Center, and they’re all designed to challenge you with information, concepts and possibilities you may not have thought about, like attorney, angel investor and CI mentor Aaron Cain, who will be sharing next Thursday how to identify and avoid the crippling mistakes some startups make. RSVP here. Plus, don’t forget that big event we have coming up (The Startup Connection); it will be filled with entrepreneurs and investors sharing dos and don’ts.
Sign up for our Track 3 Beta Program
Beginning this Fall, we’ll be asking each of our Track 3 clients to meet quarterly with an advisory board of mentors (to include c-suite startup leadership, entrepreneurs, and investors). This meeting will challenge our founders and early stage CEOs to achieve greater success by asking the tough questions. If you’re a Track 3 client, please email Jody to get on the calendar.
I look forward to seeing you over here at ASU Chandler Innovation Center soon!
