CHANDLER, Ariz.—Innovations Science & Technology Incubator is reaching beyond its walls and into the classroom to bridge the gap between biotechnology companies and their future workforce. Innovations, in collaboration with ThirdBiotech, is sponsoring the ASU Biotech Club by creating opportunities for students to network with industry professionals.
“Networking activities such as these are important both to businesses, as they seek to develop and retain skilled knowledge workers in Arizona, and students, as they prepare to enter an increasingly difficult marketplace,” said Christine Mackay, economic development director, City of Chandler.
Innovations is committed to making a dramatic impact on Arizona’s economy by building companies, connections, and fostering education to keep students focused on technology jobs within the state’s borders. ThirdBiotech, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping scientists and entrepreneurs succeed, operates its educational programs out of Innovations.
The ASU Biotech club tours companies, hosts speaker events, and develops competitions including biopharma company reviews and biotech business plan writing contests. The next event is 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at La Bocca on Mill Avenue in Tempe. Jeff Morhet, CEO of ThirdBiotech, will lead a discussion on career opportunities and how members can use their education to benefit their job search. This event is free and open to the public.
The Biotech Club’s mission is to bridge the gap between industry and academia by building relationships with companies operating in the biotechnology and healthcare sphere. It’s a student led organization that hosts events and provides services that allow club members to explore the world of business and biotechnology.
The City of Chandler launched Innovations in April 2010 to help Chandler grow its own businesses in the cutting-edge fields of biotechnology, bioinformatics, software design, nanotechnology, medical devices and others.
